I loved the album from which this song is taken when it first came out (in 1979), but only had a copy pirated from a friend’s LP. That’s long gone, but found out today that it’s actually available on iTunes. Having listened to the samples, I’m not sure I like it quite so much any more

The fang was drawn as a new layer, and merged into the original image, then I added this texture,

RI’s last Vampire

19 year old Mercy Lena Brown, daughter of Mary E. and George T. Brown died in January 1892 dying of consumption (Tuberculosis). Her Mother had died of it in 1883, and later Mercy’s sister Mary Olive. After Mercy’s death, her older brother Edwin Brown began to show signs. Neighbors and friends of the Brown family farm said it was the work of a vampire, and that one of the Brown’s was coming back from the dead and taking the life of the living Brown family. Two months after Mercy’s death the bodies of Mary E., Mary Olive and Mercy were exhumed. Both Mary’s were little more then bones, but Mercy was almost just like she looked on the day she was burried. In New England, the tell tale sign of a vampire was blood in a dead heart, which Mercy had. Her heart was cut out and burned, and sick Edwin was to drink the ashes to cure him. It didn’t. And news of Mercy’s body being dug up and being accused a vampire made news across the country and is said to have inspired the character Lucy Wisteria in Bram Strokers ‘Dracula’.

There’s always something like this left on ‘The Vampires Grave’ as people across the country come to see it. On different visits I’ve found pumpkins, roses, black flowers, prayer cards, buttons, ribbons, pennies, etc.

Mercy’s one of many young girls in rural RI whose body was exhumed to remove and burn the heart to save the living members of the family. Mercy was the last one in RI.
